Their art and artifacts are important in understanding African rulership and how it both influenced and is different from other cultures’ ideas of rulership.Please join Black Scroll Network History & Tours‘ historian and educator\,Jamon Jordan\, on a tour of the Royal and Dynastic artifacts in the ancient Egyptian and African exhibits at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). This tour will give an IN-DEPTH lesson in African culture and history and how it helps us to understand and interpret the African art and artifacts in the ancient Egyptian and African galleries at the DIA.We will meet at the John R. entrance of the DIA. The DIA is free for Wayne\, Oakland and Macomb County residents\, but the tour fee is $20 if you pre-pay\, and $25 if you pay when you arrive.Recommended parking is at the DIA parking lot ($7) on John R. between Frederick & Farnsworth. Ken is also the author of ‘The Compleat Meadmaker’ and the most widely-read authority on mead alive today.\nKen will be leading us in a lively discussion of the rudiments of mead and providing us insight into its world. You’ll get to taste a selection of Schramm’s meads\, including their top-tier and limited production labels\, with locally-sourced pairings from butcher shop Marrow and chocolatier Mindo Chocolates. \nMeads included in the tasting: Black Heart\, Madeline\, The Statement\, Nutmeg\, A Smile of Fortune\nSeating is limited so get your tickets\, soon! \nAbout Ken: \nKen Schramm is the owner and head meadmaker at Schramm’s Mead in Ferndale\, Michigan. He has always been willing to go the extra mile to explore the pleasures life can offer. He is a student of beer and brewing\, fine wine and distilled beverages.  Ken is an avid fruit grower\, and he delights in a Cox’s Orange Pippin apple\, a handful of freshly picked raspberries\, or a tree-ripened Purple Heart plum. He grows more than 50 varieties of apples in his home orchard\, as well as cherries and several different berries. Ken also enjoys cooking\, fly fishing and fly tying\, fitness\, science history\, a broad spectrum of music\, and meeting people from around the world who explore their passions for virtually any field of endeavor.  “The Compleat Meadmaker” is Ken’s sole book. He has written several other articles on mead and brewing for “Zymurgy\,” the magazine of the American Homebrewer’s Association.”  In 2014\, Ken joined only 26 other distinguished craft brewers when he received the American Homebrewer’s Association Governing Committee award.  Beginning in 1988\, this award has been given yearly to “honor outstanding service to the community of homebrewers.\nAbout Schramm’s: \nSchramm’s Mead offers craft mead and beverages made with unmatched recipes and bold ingredients\, which reflect an uncompromising commitment to quality.
